I have the honour to transmit to

Your Lordship the enclosed copy of a minute, dated the 28th.-

ultimo, by the Acting Government Bacteriologist, on the

subject of Ratin No. 2, a rat exterminator.

2.

In the opinion of the Principal

Civil Medical Officer the results obtained by Dr. C. M.

Heanley warrant an extensive trial, Ratin No. 2 being

better than Deny's Virus and probably safer than chemical

poisons.

3.

As it is possible that experiments

may have been made with this Ratin by the Medical Depart-

-ment of the Local Government Board, I have the honour to

request that their opinion as to its use may be obtained.
